Building Engine Awesome

Building a startup is freakin’ hard.

Building a startup is freakin’ hard.

I have a super smart technical co-founder, a great idea that’s been proven useful, and a product that works. Not a minimum viable product (MVP) but an actual product that works. And still, building a startup is freakin’ hard.

We built this startup because we firmly believe that the current software landscape leaves a lot to be desired. I myself, have shelled out significant amounts of money for software that doesn’t really work the I do. Or provides bloated features that I’ll never use and charges me for them. Well, we thought it was time for a change, so we started Engine Awesome.

But man, it’s a rollercoaster. Some days, we feel on top of the world, high-fiving each other as we marvel at our progress. Other days, we’re scrambling to put out fires or build traction, our optimism dwindling as we wonder if we’ll ever make it. The journey certainly isn’t all sunshine and rainbows.

We’re firm believers in Community. Both Timothy, my co-founder, and I have been members of the WordPress community for a long time. We’re both organizers of the WordPress meetup in NYC where we’ve helped hundreds of people with their websites and businesses. So, when we decided we needed a little help with ours, the first thing we thought of was community.

Building a startup is hard, but it’s a little less daunting when surrounded by a community of like-minded individuals who understand the struggles and offer a helping hand or a shoulder to lean on. That’s why we’re creating this blog – so we can help you with your company and hopefully get your feedback on ours. We’re happy to share our missteps with you, not just to commiserate but to show you that messing up is okay. It’s how we grow and become better entrepreneurs. So, we’ll be sharing the valuable lessons we’ve learned the hard way so you don’t have to.

Until then, keep hustling, and remember that building a startup is freakin’ hard, but we’re all in this together.
